The Trump administration’s national security strategy released in November 2025 has drawn the world attention , and many analysts have noticed that India has not been given the place as a defence partner and co-leader in the democratic world . A big point is being missed in this assessment of the National Security Strategy is that India doesn’t need repeated mentions in the strategic documents of other countries even if it happens to be the most powerful country in the world- the united States of America.

There can be no argument as to how the US , under the second Trump administration drafted its national security strategy It has its own definition of its national interest and can choose the ways to secure and achieve that .The mention of other countries It is not important unless there is some specific reason . With regard to India, the only objection is its reference is the reiteration of Donald Trump that he brokered ceasefire – peace- between India and Pakistan when the two nations were at war with each other in May 2025. This is irritating because nothing of the sort happened > India’s foreign ministry has refuted this Trumpian claim time and again, but then there are some who never correct themselves. Such incorrigible men always believe and narrate their fiction to build an image , ignoring the facts on the ground.

America has documented this unfounded claim in its National Security Strategy because Trump. It is hard to argue that American self-obsession is not on rise.. What must have irritated Trump and his National Security Strategy team that India did not consult the US before launching Operation Sindoor . That irritation accumulated into frustration and American President floated a fiction of having brought about peace between the two nuclear powered nations- India and Pakistan.

Pakistan ego-massaged Trump and marched ahead of others in nominating the US President for Nobel Peace Prize . Though that did not materialize , but US- Pakistan relations were back on keel. The US President preferred Pakistan over India while imposing tariff .The Trump administration imposed 50 per cent tariff on India , and only 19 per cent on Pakistan .

India did not compromise as it declared that local talent and production will offset all the negative effects that the huge tariff brought with it.

America can revel in its national security strategy focused on its slogan of “ Making America Great Again,” but India already is on path of making itself great again . Its idea of “ Atamnirbar Bharat”- self-reliant India is already taking shape .The world is taking note of it . It is being recognized in clear terms. Recently , Russian President Vladimir Putin was on visit of India, China is already cosying up to India .

India is fast becoming anchor of the regional stability and pivot of new world order.

As the first quarter of the 21st century is drawing to its close , India has emerged as a major global leader in its own right . This India is different from the times when it looked up to super power for endorsement of its status . India was weighed down by many problems in that era- an elusive political stability , economy was looking for direction , and the domestic issues were tampering its image within and outside of the country.

Things have changed. .By the time 21st century appeared on the calendar , India was griped with so many problems . The country was struggling to stabilize itself . Pakistan and China were the major adversaries in the neighbourhood , while the west viewed it as weak despite being the largest democracy in the world, with second largest population . The international standing was at its lowest pedestal. The world view was not favourable .

Pakistan’s proxy war in Jammu and Kashmir, rising scale and scope of Naxalism , and unrest in various places across the country were damaging the inner strength and external standing . The nuclear explosions in Pokhran , and failure of the then Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee’s visit to Pakistan in February 1999 to yield good results . Subsequent Kargil war in the summer of that year decimated hopes of lasting peace on the borders. And December 1999 , Kandhar fiasco was a shameful surrender to terrorists . Rest is history – India witnessed attack on the Parliament and coercive diplomacy executed through mobilization of troops to borders did not reform Pakistan .The Mumbai terror attack of 26/11 demonstrated weak diplomacy . The inability of Manmohan Singh government to take any retaliatory action against Pakistan from where the operation of the terror attack was planned and executed exhibited how weak the country had become despite having come under the massive terror attack.. That is where the country stood that time.

Today country retaliates to all acts of terror . It has laid out a new doctrine of counter-terrorism , zero tolerance of terrorism . India has also climbed the economic ladder, an envy of the rest of the world. That’s why it knows where its standing is . It is not hostage to the view of others , including the United States of America.
