Srinagar, May 9:

All parties meeting convened by Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti  to find a consensus route to end bloodshed in Kashmir got underway at Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Centre ( SKICC)  , Srinagar  on Wednesday.

The meeting that saw among other parties the rare attendance of the main opposition National Conference that had boycotted such meetings in 2016   has  a challenging agenda before it ; the spurt in  the killing of local militants , civilians in  the attendant law and order situations and the  widening atmosphere of fear and terror in the Valley .

The meeting, however, did not touch upon the issue of the radicalization of the youth in Kashmir in which the Islamic State ideology of dying for the spread of Islam  has replaced Kashmiri Muslim  nationalism  for none of the Kashmiri leaders present there  think that Kashmir is getting radicalized . They  dismiss this as  the illusion spread by the  anti-Kashmir elements who want to  portray Kashmiris “ struggle” for the liberation of their land from the occupation of the Indian forces as  part of the global jihad .

The meeting  would assume significant only if it is able to evolve a consensus  to address the situation in the  wholesome manner .

The issue of the  civilian killings , however, dominated the deliberations , as per the initial reports emerging out of the meeting.
