Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti administered a severe snub to the alliance partner BJP and declared that she would take the FIR against the army personnel in the killing of two Shopian youth to its “ logical conclusion.”
Her declaration came in response to the plea by the BJP lawmaker R S Patpointed who pointed out the legal infirmities in the FIR registered against the army and asked Chief Minister to withdraw the FIR in its present form . She was all fire and brimstone against the civilian killings and she said that “ the youth killed in the army firing were our children.”
Mehbooba drew a clear difference between the stone pelting youth and the army , by calling the former as “ our children”.
Cornered by the opposition , particularly National Conference leader Omar Abdullah for “ doing politics on dead bodies,” Mehbooba said that her government would take the probe to the logical conclusion . She said in the Assembly that she would personally monitor this .
The army, however, has maintained that it had fired in self-defence as its convoy had come under severe attack from a highly volatile and violent crowd of stone throwers.
