New Delhi, January 14:

Fog has delayed 12 Delhi-bound trains on Monday (January 14) as citizens woke up to yet another chilly morning in the national capital. Delhi’s air quality was recorded under very poor category after slight improvement since yesterday.

Private weather forecasting agency Skymet has predicted the minimum temperature is expected to be around 8-9 degree Celsius while the maximum temperature has been predicted at 23 degree Celsius.

Several flights are also expected to be delayed due to dense fog in Delhi and Bengaluru. Travellers should check the status of their flight through dedicated apps to keep a tab.

The weather department expects the sky to be clear throughout the day following a dense cloud covering yesterday. The wind velocity is also expected to be moderate and is a good indication for those who will be looking to fly kites today as part of Makar Sankranti celebrations.

While weather conditions are expected to be pleasant today, air quality in the national capital and surrounding regions continue to remain under very poor’ category. While there was some improvement over the air quality recorded yesterday, it still remains harmful.

Data obtained from System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR) suggested that PM10 pollution level was recorded at 389 (Very poor) while PM2.5 level was at 232 (Very poor).

On a brighter note, air quality is expected to improve further with rising wind velocity across North India due to Western disturbance over the Jammu and Kashmir region.

The disturbance may also lead to a drop in mercury to the tune of 2-3 degree Celsius in some parts of Northwest India, predicted the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). Fresh snowfall in parts of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh may also lead to a drop in temperature across Delhi-NCR.
