Srinagar, Febraury 07: A team of Food Safety Department to day busted a gang of spices adulteration active in summer capital of Srinagar.

The Assistant Commissioner, Food Safety Srinagar, Hilal Mir informed that on the basis of specific information that two spices manufacturing units are using dangerous adulterants in various spices like turmeric powder, chilli powder, saunf powder, coriander powder, a team of food safety officers headed by him raided the two factories and found adulterated material in huge quantity, which were being mixed with various condiments.

“These adulterants consisted of grass, rice, husk, atta, salt and unpermitted colours,” Mir said and added, “These adulterants which were dyed as per their intended use are mixed with low quantity grinded spices and then sold in the market.”

Whole stock of these adulterants which consisted of about 45 quintals were seized and sample of same were sent to food analyst Kashmir. The two factories namely Idress Enterprices Industrial Esatate Bagi Ali Mardan Khan and other at Mughal Mohalla Rainawari were sealed and prohibition order were issued on the spot.
