Governor Satya Pal Malik ‘s initiative to reach out to the youth in Kashmir is a highly significant step . It is rich both in symbolism and substance .. That s he traveled beyond the usual high sounding appeals was obvious from the fact that he combined his announcements with the practical steps for which he has worked already with the key players in the social, academia, sports , entertainment and the career opportunity offering venues .
The Governor has made his intentions clear by not connecting the outreach to any conditions . This is the beauty of what he said and what he intends to do . For example, he is clear that the youth should have opportunities to play and test their sporting skills in cricket and football and other games . These opportunities may seem dream at the moment, but the way he is working in getting the international level stadiums for which he has already taken up the matter with the concerned at the national level. Hosting of an international premier league match in Srinagar demonstrates that how he is planning to translate the dream into a reality.
There is a larger context to what he said and what he is doing . Kashmiri youth and the people at large should understand that Mr. Malik is having a single-minded agenda to save Kashmir for Kashmiris . The youth form the core asset of any society . He has tapped the right demographic part of society .
They need future . At the moment there are uncertainties of disruption and destruction in their lives because they have been pushed to the arena of conflict by the vested interests and also the circumstances that have been created thereof . They cannot be insulated from the things happening around them . It is not an easy task to pull them out of the quagmire in which they are getting sucked into .
Mr. Malik however has presented an alternative view of living the vibrant life of becoming competitive in the world of science where Robots and Artificial Intelligence is dominating the world . All that he needs is the work to be done in a decentralized manner . For that he has already made a beginning by setting up grievances cell at the district levels where the people can be heard and their grievances redressed.. This is no mean achievement because such an interactive system gives confidence to all sections of the people, especially the youth who want a platform to be heard and their grievances redressed. Mr. Mali should oversee that his words reach the youth in practical terms to the youth of Kashmir.
