People’s Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti said here today that the date of separation of Jammu and Kashmir from India will coincide with the deadline of removal of the Article 370 of the Constitution set by BJP president Amit Shah.
Soon after filing her nomination papers for Anantnag Lok Sabha seat that goes to polls in three phases ( third to fifth) , Mehbooba Mufti told reporters curtly to a question as to what she had to say on Amit Shah’s claim that the Article 370 will be removed by 2020, “ That will be the deadline for the state to quit India.”
In an unusually strident tone , the PDP chief also termed it unfortunate that the way former Sadr-e-Riyasat Dr Karan Singh’s observation that the Centre gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir on its own . “ His father Maharaja Hari Singh had laid the conditions for the state’s accession to India in 1947 , and these endorsed by Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah . Now he is saying something different but any twisting or tweaking of facts is intolerable.”
Mehbooba said that she was happy that Congress had included the points of review of AFSPA and unconditional dialogue in its manifesto that was released in Delhi on Tuesday.
When confronted by a reporter as to why she didn’t do all this during her tenure as Chief Minister ( 2016 to 2018) , she replied that during the PDP-BJP alliance tenure , Prime Minister visited Pakistan , ceasefire was announced to which the militants did not respond positively.
Mehbooba is seeking election from Anantnag constituency for a third time.
