Jk News Today: Srinagar Thursday, 01 Feb: 2018 Lt. Gen AK Bhatt took over as the 47th Corps Commander of Srinagar based 15 Corps, also called the Chinar Corps, from Lt Gen JS Sandhu today. A befitting farewell was given to Lt Gen Sandhu at Badami Bagh Cantt who is proceeding to New Delhi to assume the charge of Military Secretary (MS). Lt Gen Sandhu’s tenure will be defined by the successful execution of ‘Operation All Out’ launched by the Security Forces in which a large number of terrorists were eliminated in the Valley. Lt Gen Sandhu also gave impetus to improving the education infrastructure, coaching facilities, skill development, sports and youth empowerment. In his farewell message Gen Sandhu complimented all ranks of Chinar Corps for their dedication and thanked civil administration and Awaam for their support.

Lt Gen AK Bhatt was commissioned into the regiment of 9th Gorkha Rifles (Chindits) and has had an illustrious military career spanning 36 years during which he has held varied prestigious command, staff and instructional appointments. The General officer has an incisive understanding of J&K having served here thrice before. A Graduate of Staff College Camberley (UK), Gen Bhatt has also held several appointments in the Army Headquarters and had an instructional appointment at Commando School, Belgaum. The General officer has also represented the country as the deputy Force Provost Marshal in Lebanon. Before taking over as Chinar Corps Commander, the General Officer was tenanting the prestigious appointment of Director General Military Operations (DGMO) in Army Headquarters. On assuming the charge, Gen Bhatt conveyed his greetings to the Awaam of Kashmir and the entire Chinar Corps fraternity.( Being re sent for those who didn’t get it earlier)
