Jammu, March 4:
Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti cautioned the people of Jammu against the designs of the vested interests to communalise the situation in the region , and this she said could harm the whole place .
While addressing her party PDP’s youth convocation in Jammu on Sunday, she picked up two reference points to dive home her point . First she spoke of attack at Sunjwan military station on February 10 and later the alleged rape and murder of a minor girl in Kathua . She said that the attack at the army camp was to “ provoke Jammu , I mean Hindus to rise against Muslims.” And now the Kathua tragedy is being used to inflame the communal passions ,” she said .
Mehbooba Mufti said that there is a campaign against the communal harmony in Jammu , the place that has hosted and welcomed the peoples of all regions and religions and accommodated them with open arms .
Her reference was clear , though she did not name her ally BJP and its ministers Lal Singh and Channder Prakash Ganga who had gone to Kathua to support the agitators demanding CBI inquiry into the case and decried the J&K police for “ harassing and torturing the people of one community.”
Ganga had termed the police “ atrocities” on Hindu community as reflection of “ jungle raj”, clearly indicting the state government for unleashing the police on Hindus who alleged that they were being hounded and haunted by police .
Two PDP ministers Naeem Akhtar and Altaf Bukhari had chastised their BJKP colleagues for politicizing and communalizing the crime .
