Jammu and  Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti pitched for extension of Ramzan ceasefire  and  also  told politely the visiting Home Minister Rajnath Singh that  its revocation could prove catastrophic. She also pleaded  for an unconditional  dialogue with the separatists  and Pakistan .

She said that Hurriyat and Pakistan-bashing would yield no results and also cautioned the Centre against any coercivce action against Hurriyat Conference for that could spoil the atmosphere and widen the breach of peace in  Kashmir.

Chief Minister spoke on the scripted lines that the ceasefire had given a hope  to the peace-loving silent majority in Kashmir  and that should not be snatched from them  just because a handful of militants and stone throwers were  making attempts to “ sabotage the  peace efforts,” according to the sources  aware of Chief Minister’s line of discussions  with the  Home Miister .

Interestingly , she cited some of the media reports which appeared in a multi-edition  newspaper , to substantiate her point that the militancy, stone throwing and other incidents of violence came down  substantially .  This, she said, is a “ welcome development and needs further expansion and extension.”

However, the Home Minister said that he would take every thing into account before taking a decision on the  extension of ceasefire.
