Two day National seminar on “Challenges in Biodiversity Conservation and Management” concluded today at Department of Zoology, University of Jammu. Prof. Jigar Mohammad, Dean Research Studies, University of Jammu was the Chief Guest for the function and Prof. Geeta Sumbali, Dean Faculty of Life Sciences, University of Jammu was the Guest of Honor.

Prof. Jigar Mohd. stressed upon the need for propogation of biodiversity for the survival of living organisms. He also advised that declining biodiversity is really a matter of concern and should be taken care.

Prof. Geeta Sumbali, Dean Life Sciences, University of Jammu, in her address applauded the efforts of the department for organizing such academic activities which would be helpful in the conservation and management and also emphasized that research needs o be researched for biodiversity conservation so that various strategies be adopted to conserve biodiversity.

Prof. Seema Langer, Head of the Department of Zoology and Convener of the National Seminar presented the detailed activities report. In her report, she mentioned that the event was attended by 120 participants from different regions and states of India, who presented their research work in the form of Posters on themes like Fisheries, Cytogenetics, Molecular genetics, Aquatic biology, Entomology, Wildlife diversity etc. During two days event, six technical sessions were held in which eminent Scientists from different Universities and Research Institutes of India like Delhi University, GNDU, Amristar, Kurukshetra University, Shimla University, IIIM, Jammu, Kamaun University Nainital, Rajasthan University, Kanpur University, Kashmir University etc. presented their lectures on Biodiversity related issues. In the parallel sessions, more than 80 poster presentations were made by the participants which were evaluated by the experts of the respective fields.

Prof. B.R. Kaushal from Kumaun University also briefed about the proceedings of the Seminar.

Awards for Best posters presentation were awarded to the participants.  The department also felicitated the M.Sc. students who had participated in  Poster making and slogan writing activities in the Department. In the valedictory function, Head and faculty members of different departments of Life sciences were also present to grace the occasion. Prof. Vinod Sharma, Rector Poonch Campus, University of Jammu, and Co-convener of the National seminar presented a formal vote of thanks. Dr. Roopali Fotra hosted the event.
