Jammu, January 8

All India Congress Committee has  re-appointed Ghulam Ahmad Mir  as PCC president for a second time   and the biggest task before him is to regain the party’s identity, which has been virtually lost.

Mir is an affable personality and sincerely believes in carrying along  every body in the party , but the problem is that the party, which was once a string political force in Jammu and Kashmir, has been reduced to peripheries . BJP  consumed it in Jammu  and Ladakh and  National Conference  and People’s Democratic Party  have reduced it to  an appendage .

The party has its base in jammu region , but this is the region, which it  has neglected the most .  The workers from Jammu region always had a wish that some one from among their leaders should lead the party . But that was  not to be the case . Barring one  stint of Ghulam Nabi Azad as  PCC chief  ahead of the 2002 polls  that lasted until  he became Chief Minister in 2005 , Jammu has never had any  one  from the region to head the party.

Same has been the  case of  Ladakh .

Mir could have  bridged the gap. The situation, so developed, after  he became PCC chief in 2015 , that  it became very difficult for him  to assert the position  of the party. His loss of election from his Dooru constituency in 2014  made him vulnerable .

Today Congress is   force in  any of the three regions of the  State . It has played second fiddle to National  Conference and PDP alternatively . .

The party has many stalwarts and energetic leaders but when they are deprived  of their  political role they deserve , the party is bound to suffer.  The merit of ignoring Tariq Hamid Karra , Sham Lal Sharma , G M Saroori and  Nawang Rigzin Jora  is  going to be a big problem  for the party  already struggling to find its feet .

Mir will have to work harder  and in more harmonious manner to  increase the reach  of the party . It is an uphill task in the given situation .
