University of Jammu is the only State University which has been selected for establishing Institution Innovation Council (IIC).The IIC was launched by Sh. Prakash Javadakar, Hon’ble Union Minister, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, at New Delhi on November 21, 2018 where University of Jammu was awarded the certificate of Institution Innovation Council (IIC).

The ‘Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2019’ is all set to roll in the University of Jammu with a National level event.  Prof Manoj K Dhar, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu said that the Smart India Hackathon 2019 is nothing short of a digital movement that collectively harnesses the creativity and skill of India’s technology students, towards developing a Digital India.

Hackathon  encompasses  expertise of students, sparks institute-level hackathons, builds funnel for ‘Startup India’ campaign, crowd-sources solutions for improving governance and quality of life and provides opportunity to citizens to provide innovative solutions to India’s daunting problems,” The Vice-Chancellor hoped that the IIC shall host a very successful Smart India Hackathon 2019, with tremendous student participation from the State.SIH 2019 aims to challenge lakhs of  students to come up with unique solutions to some of the most prominent issues faced in India. In order to make development a comprehensive mass movement and innovate on all fronts, MHRD, AICTE, i4c and University of Jammu  have come together to organize Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2019 – a unique Open Innovation Model for identifying new and disruptive technology innovations to solve the challenges faced in our country. It’s a non-stop product development competition, where problem statements are posed to technology students for innovative solutions. During the last few months , University is envisaging  to create a vibrant local innovation ecosystem, start-up supporting mechanism in the university, establish functional ecosystem for scouting ideas and pre-incubation of ideas and develop better cognitive ability for students/scholars. The university has established Business Incubation & Innovation Centre, Entrepreneurship and Skill Development Cell and Industry Academia interface. The University also aims to establish the centres of IIC  in its affiliated Colleges. If the University/Colleges in other regions of the state aspire to start Institution Innovation Council, Jammu University is ready to offer its support and guidance.
