Jammu, November 8: Hockey Jammu & Kashmir joined the nation in celebrating 100 glorious years of hockey in India, marking the momentous occasion with a series of events and activities organized across multiple districts of the Union Territory.

To commemorate the centenary milestone, exhibition matches, awareness drives, and community gatherings were held by the various district units of Hockey J&K, including Jammu, Baramulla, Kathua, Udhampur, Bandipora, Ganderbal, Shopian, Anantnag, Pulwama, Budgam, and Reasi. Each district showcased the spirit of sportsmanship and unity that hockey continues to inspire among the youth and sports enthusiasts of Jammu & Kashmir.

The celebrations witnessed active participation from players of all age groups, local sports associations, schools, and hockey enthusiasts who came together to honour the rich heritage of Indian hockey. The events not only paid tribute to India’s remarkable journey in the sport but also aimed to revive and promote grassroots hockey development across the Union Territory.

Speaking on the occasion, President of Hockey J&K, Sh. Manik Batra, expressed immense pride in the growing passion for hockey in the region. He lauded the commitment of the district units for their proactive efforts in celebrating this historic milestone.

“It is a proud moment for every hockey lover in the country. Hockey has always been more than just a sport — it represents India’s sporting identity and collective spirit. I congratulate all our district units for their wholehearted participation and for carrying forward the legacy of Indian hockey with enthusiasm and pride,” said Sh. Batra.

General Secretary, Adv. Manmohit Singh, also commended the efforts of the organizing units and emphasized the importance of nurturing young talent through such initiatives.

“This centenary celebration is not just about the past 100 years; it is about building a stronger foundation for the next century of hockey. Our district associations have shown remarkable dedication in keeping the game alive at the grassroots level,” he noted.

The centenary celebrations concluded with a pledge from Hockey J&K to continue promoting the sport across every corner of the Union Territory, strengthening infrastructure, training opportunities, and youth engagement to ensure that Jammu & Kashmir remains an integral part of India’s hockey story.
