Srinagar, Nov. 29: In a statement issued in Srinagar, former minister Mohammed Ashraf Mir called on the Governor and the Chief Minister of J&K to take urgent steps to protect the interests of Kashmiri students studying in Bengaluru. Mir said that many students from Jammu and Kashmir who are in the city for education and employment have shared their concerns with him, reporting that they are being harassed in the name of repeated verification and resubmission of documents simply because of their place of residence.

Mir expressed disappointment that such incidents are taking place in a state governed by a party that claims to uphold secular values and safeguard the rights of all communities. He said the situation on the ground does not match the promises made publicly.

He urged the Chief Minister, who is also the vice president of the National Conference and a member of the INDIA alliance, to initiate dialogue with his alliance counterparts to ensure Kashmiri students in Bengaluru are treated with dignity. Mir stressed that no further harassment should be allowed, especially towards female students, who must be assured safety and fair treatment.
