Home Minister Amit Shah will begin his three-day- visit of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday , primed as security review of the borders and hinterland of the Union Territory , but there is larger ground that he is expected to cover during the visit .
There are two parts of this visit – to assess the security situation in J&K , threats to which emerge from across the border and Line of Control in the Union Territory , and the decades-old pro-terror ecosystem wherein the anti-India narratives drive the thought process. The real danger is that these threats pose challenges to all the normalcy and peace that has been achieved in the territory in the past over six years , especially after the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019.
Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Jammu and Kashmir has seen progress in multiple fields . his vision has been translated to a large extent by the ministry of home affairs under the leadership of Amit Shah. This is no ordinary accomplishment .
Consistent and intensified anti-terror operations in J&K in post August 5, 2019, era have retrieved J&K, particularly the Kashmir Valley , from imminent danger of collapsing under the weight of terrorism , exported and supported from across the border. Pakistan had tightened its grip on the landscape, psychology and the moment had come when Kashmir had given up .
The government of India , through its carrot and stick policy, only gave the impression that it is vulnerable to the situation . The Modi government brought that cult to an end. Now the trajectory clear – zero tolerance to terrorism , and finish all terrorists and their support systems without any concessions.
Home Minister , through his regular visits and review of the situations , he is keeping himself abreast of all developments . His review of the situation includes his visits to the border areas , which have shown some signs of vulnerability to the infiltration and drone dropping of arms and ammunition . That gives him the idea as to what kind of terrain is involved and how the challenges can be met . This is being not only on the ground but instilling oneness with the jawans of Border Security Force and soldiers that they alone were not on the frontline . All their needs would be listened to and addressed to neutralize the enemy forces.
This visit is coming at a time when there has been sharper focus on the radicalization in J&K, which is being fuelled by cyber space propaganda from the airwaves and social media from across the border . There also are sections which are prone to accept that propaganda and peddle it further. That radicalization is not easily detectable and punishable .
It is appreciated that counter narrative proves helpful , but that is counter only . There is a need to lift that narrative to the heart and soul of the people so that they accept what all is being said is real and related it to the ground . That ground reality needs to be reinforced.
There is a gap in the narratives of improvement in the situation and the developmental activities . The fact that peace so brought by the anti-terrorism operations is helping in undertaking development activities which have bettered and improved the lifestyles from schools, playgrounds to high-reach tunnels and roads , is not being aired adequately . This again calls for narration with extra focus and content . The time for the random narrative is over .
