A powerful bomb explosion in a mosque in Islamabad, Pakistan , on Friday left more than 30 dead and many more injured in a chilling reminder that Pakistan establishment is unable to control the situation and save its people from the terror bombings This is a serious situation, which Pakistan should address by honestly analyzing the problems and solutions thereof without attempting to shift blame on others .
Friday’s blast was one of the deadliest attacks in Pakistan , the country where terror attacks are becoming a norm . The recurring attacks , especially in mosques, point out to the growing fault lines in its social fabric . This has complicated its already fragile security situation and exposed its failures in addressing the issues spawning unrest among the people .
Islamabad police said that a suicide bomber detonated an explosive device at the gate of a Shia mosque in the Tarlai area of the capital city . Islamic State has claimed the responsibility for the attack . Thin group claimed that the attack was part of its ideological war against the government and democracy. Islamic State is for establishment of pure Islamic rule in Pakistan .
This particular attack was multi-dimensional. It shows the rise of violent forces in Pakistan and their reach to the high-security zones . This also exposes the failure of the government and its law enforcing agencies in curing the curse of terrorism because it itself has been responsible for promoting terrorism and ideological violence within its political and social aspects .
Pakistan has been in the grip of suicide bombing over the decades . It first trained the suicide bombers to target the US forces in Afghanistan ,even when it claimed that it was closely aligned with the US in latter’s war against terrorism against Taliban and Al-Qaeda in the post 9/11 era . That duplicity in Pakistan’s strategic outlook has come back to haunt it .
As usual , Pakistan instead of looking at its own shortcomings in creating an atmosphere of sanity and political correctness , has resorted to the blame game . . Its ministers blamed Afghanistan and India for the attack without any evidence to support their statements .
Defence Minister Khawja Asif said that the attacker had travelled to and from Afghanistan , and also suggested that India might be involved . In the past, too, he has been blaming India and Afghanistan for such terror attacks . India has dismissed these charges , terming them as baseless and pointless.”
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs condemned Islamabad mosque blast and condoled the loss of life it has caused and termed Pakistan’s allegations as unfortunate . “ It is unfortunate that, instead of seriously addressing the problems plaguing its social fabric , Pakistan should choose to delude itself by blaming others for its home-grown ills . India rejects any and every such allegation , which is as baseless as it is pointless.”
Pakistan’s habit of blaming others for its own problems results in deflecting attention not only from its failures but also to create a situation in which it seeks to cover its back for the future attacks . This is what is at the root of the problem .
Existential challenges abound in Pakistan . At this point when its strategic assets , security forces and people are being targeted almost on daily basis , the country needs to look deep into the things that were becoming source of the disturbances and disruptions in Pakistan .
The recent attacks in Balochistan , and now in the capital city of Islamabad,, highlight two major fault lines that the people are restive in Balochistan whose fundamental rights have been trampled by Pakistani military , and their resources captured and outsourced to foreign countries, particularly China. Second , it is paying price for watering the nurseries of terrorism and using its graduates as foreign policy tools to bleed its neighbours –India and Afghanistan.
The blast on Friday came after w a week of violence in which 58 civilians were killed in coordinated attacks in the restive province of Balochistan , where people are fighting for their rights to regain their land and its assets . Balochistan Liberation Army or BLA had claimed responsibility for the attacks . Pakistan army, however, claimed that it killed 200 BLA fighters in response .
Pakistan is competing with itself in increasing the number of attacks and casualties thereof.
The 2025 was also Pakistan’s deadliest year in over a decade . There was a surge of 74 per cent incidents . Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies had released data saying that the violence left 3413 people dead – up from 19504 in 2024 .
It’s time that Pakistan sets its own house in order and not blame others for its self-inflicted tragedies.
