Jammu, 01 August 2026: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), in coordination with the Revenue Department and the Police Department, conducted an anti-encroachment drive at Village Sitni, District Jammu, to remove unauthorized encroachments from National Highway land.

The operation was conducted in the presence of Shri Ish Gupta, Project Director, NHAI; Shri Sumit Kohli, Tehsildar, Nagrota; and Shri Vikas Kundal, SDPO, Nagrota, along with officials and staff from NHAI, the Revenue Department and the Police Department.
The drive was undertaken in compliance with the directions of the Hon’ble Supreme Court following the Phalodi accident, with the objective of ensuring an obstruction-free Right of Way (RoW), protecting Government/NHAI land from unauthorized occupation, and enhancing the safety of road users.
In total, 46 illegally constructed structures encroaching upon Government/NHAI land were dismantled and removed during the drive. The operation was carried out peacefully and without any untoward incident, with coordinated support from all concerned departments.
The public has been advised not to undertake any unauthorized construction or encroachment on National Highway land. It has been reiterated that strict legal action will be taken against any future encroachments in accordance with the applicable laws and regulations.
As part of the enforcement action, an encroachment removal drive was also carried out along the Right of Way (RoW) on the newly constructed Jammu Ring Road (NH-244A). During the operation, unauthorized structures, a boundary wall, a temporary shed, debris and two gates were removed to clear the highway corridor of encroachments. The drive was undertaken to maintain the Right of Way, improve road safety, facilitate efficient highway operations and ensure smooth and uninterrupted movement of traffic. Such enforcement activities are being carried out periodically to keep National Highways free from unauthorized obstructions and to preserve the integrity of the highway corridor.
NHAI remains committed to maintaining encroachment-free National Highways in coordination with the District Administration to ensure safe, efficient and uninterrupted movement of traffic while protecting valuable public infrastructure.
