New Delhi/ Beijing, May 26:

Amid ongoing border tensions between India and China along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), Chinese president Xi Jinping urged that country’s military brass to achieve the targets of ‘strengthening’ China’s national defence and armed forces.

Jinping, the general secretary of the Communist Party of China’s (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission was attending a plenary meeting of a delegation of People’s Liberation Army and People’s Armed Police Force, Xinhua reported.

Jinping’s comments may be viewed on the backdrop of the ongoing tension between Indian and Chinese troops in Eastern Ladakh. Earlier today, PM Narendra Modi chaired a high-level meeting of military chiefs and National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval to review the situation along the Chinese borders.

Army top brass to deliberate upon LAC situation

Top Army commanders will carry out an in-depth review of the situation in Ladakh over the next three days even as India and China continue to remain engaged in an eyeball to eyeball face-off at Pangong-Tso.

Indian and Chinese troops have significantly increased their presence in the area after the confrontations began on May 5, when 250 Indian and Chinese troops were engaged in violent skirmishes along the LAC in Ladakh. Over 100 Indian and Chinese soldiers were injured in the violence.

A similar incident took place on May 9 in North Sikkim. “The apex level leadership of the Indian Army will brainstorm on the current emerging security and administrative challenges and chart the future course for Indian Army,” Army Spokesperson Col Aman Anand said on Tuesday, PTI reported.
