New Delhi, June 16:

Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain has been admitted to the national capital’s Rajiv Gandhi Super Specialty Hospital due to high fever and breathing trouble after he attended a meeting on Sunday where Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal were present. He will be tested for coronavirus today.

In a tweet this morning, the 55-year-old AAP leader wrote: “Due to high grade fever and a sudden drop of my oxygen levels last night I have been admitted to RGSSH. Will keep everyone updated (sic)”.

Replying to the post, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted in Hindi: “You kept serving the public 24*7 without taking care of yourself. Please take care of your health and get well soon.”

Last week, Arvind Kejriwal had tested negative for coronavirus after he went into self-isolation at his home. He had a bout of fever and throat pain.

With over 42,000 COVID-19 cases, Delhi has the third highest number of infections in India after Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu.

On Sunday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, his deputy Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain, among other senior ministers and officials, had met to discuss the national capital’s response to coronavirus.

Yesterday, Amit Shah and Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal assured that there will be coronavirus testing for all in Delhi after an all-party meet amid rise in coronavirus cases in the national capital.

Last week, the Supreme Court had pulled the Arvind Kejriwal government over the spike in virus cases and said that the situation in the national capital is “horrendous, horrific and pathetic”.

Slamming the AAP government for not following the Union Health Ministry’s guidelines, the top court had said: “The situation in Delhi is horrendous, horrific and pathetic. (There is a) very sorry state of affairs in its hospitals that aren’t giving due care and concern to the bodies. Patients’ families aren’t even informed about deaths. Families haven’t been able to attend the last rites too in some cases.” It had also sent notice to centre, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Bengal.

Across India, the number of cases has soared to 3.43 lakh cases; 9,900 patients have died.
