Advisor to Lt. Governor, Baseer A Khan today threw open the Kashmir’s first houseboat themed restaurant ‘Kongposh’ by Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Corporation (JKTDC) at Zero Bridge, Rajbagh.

On the occasion Secretary Tourism, Sarmad Hafeez, Director Tourism and M.D JKTDC, Nisar A Wani besides other officers from the department were present.

The restaurant has been opened at a time when winters are about to begin here, and to sync in with the season the ethnic kashmiri cuisines or traditional foods have been put on display and offered to the customers at the restaurant.

The ethnic foods like Harissa, Alae Hachi te Maaz, Handh te Kokur, Mujje te Gaade, Paache, Nader te Gaade, Zombre thool te Gogje aarae, Noon Chai, Kehwa te Shirmal besides wazwan and other street and fast foods have been included in the menu at the restaurant.

The stalls of Handicraft, Pottery , Wicker work, Paper machie and others besides the blend of kashmiri music is on display at the venue to give feel of local art, craft, culture and lifestyle to the local and high end tourists.

The Advisor on the occasion said that it is important for tourism that the people that come from outside experience local cuisine, art, craft and culture and in this very context this resturant has been established here in the serene ambience of Jehlum river to present local texture to the tourists.

He said it is an aim of the Tourism department to revive the glory of the dried vegetables among both the locals and the outsiders.

He also said that the retaurant shall act as an evening activity to the locals where they can relish traditional foods and catch glimpses of the local art besides it will also provide a platform for the artists to display their art.

The Secretary Tourism said that sice the local foods are famous world over so, this year during travel marts we will invite people from outside for both Kashmiri and Jammu food festivals.

He said the department is careful about Covid protocols and have issued strict instructions to the staff to adhere to SOPs in letter and spirit.
