Jammu , January 02: Union Home Minister Amit Shah started chairing an important meeting on security situation in Jammu and Kashmir , with a particular reference to the situation prevailing in the border region of Rajouri- Poonch which threw newer security and strategic challenges in 2023.
The Home Minister , sources revealed, wanted to have an overall critical assessment of the situation in simple words – hard facts and challenges therein .
In 2023 , the Indian Army lost 19 soldiers, including two officers in terror attacks , which detractors used to target the government’s zero tolerance of terrorism policy. The killing of three civilians in mysterious circumstances, now under investigation, further complicated the situation as some of the political parties twisted the narrative, and sought dialogue with Pakistan to ease the situation. It may be recalled Home Minister has rejected the notion and option of talks with Pakistan.
Tuesday evening’s meeting was being attended by LG J&K , Manoj Sinha , army chief Gen. Manoj Pande and senior officers of the MHA and UT .
The Home Minister wants a fool proof strategy to counter all negative aspects of terrorism from across the the border or from within those who sympathise with and facilitate the terrorists on the Indian soil. He also wanted the J&K government to continue developmental work , with a greater zeal, to defeat designs of the enemy. There was a need for a fair ground report on the situation without any whereaboutery.
There would be discussions on the panchayat and municipal polls .
