New Delhi, June 26: The Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) MP from Rajasthan’s Kota, Om Birla was elected as the Speaker of the 18th Lok Sabha in a vote held in the house on Wednesday, June 26.
He also served as the Speaker of the 17th Lok Sabha from 2019-2024.
In 2024, he became the first person in 20 years to be re-elected as an MP to the lower house, after serving as the Speaker of the Lok Sabha.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Leader of Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju accompany Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to the chair.
