Jammu, October 13:

The Corps Commander level meeting held in Chushul on Monday to ease tensions in eastern Ladakh where Indian and Chinese troops are locked in a stiff standoff for the past five months ended with a commitment to work further to resolve the issue soon.

Indicating that despite 13-hour-long meeting between the military commanders on Monday the two sides were yet to reach any firm conclusion , a joint statement issued in Delhi on Tuesday said during the seventh round of talks ,” both sides agreed to maintain dialogue and communication through military and diplomatic channels and arrive at a fair , reasonable and mutually acceptable solution to disengagement as early as possible..
The statement issued jointly by the two sides left the room open for more talks as there was no decision to start the process of de-escalation in eastern Ladakh where the Indian and PLA troops are in a face-off position . However, there were homilies that the “ the two sides had a sincere and in-depth exchange of views and enhanced understanding of each other’s positions on the disengagement of their frontline troops along the Line of Actual Control in the western sector of China- India boundary”

Both sides viewed the meeting as positive and constructive and reiterated that they agreed to “earnestly implement the important understandings reached by the leaders of the two countries not to turn differences into disputes, and jointly safeguard peace and tranquillity in the border areas.”
