Soon after the 24 students were reported to have tested Covid-19 positive on Saturday at NIT Srinagar, District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Srinagar, Chairman Mohammad Aijaz Asad in the order declared the Campus as Micro Containment Zone (MCZ).
After a communication by Block Medical Officer (BMO) Hazratbal to concerned authorities requesting the declaration of MCZ of NIT campus Srinagar, DDMA Srinagar ordered the declaration of the campus as a Micro Containment Zone.
According to the order issued by the DDMA Srinagar, which reads that the 24 COVID-19 cases have been reported from NIT Campus Srinagar, according to which notification has been issued for the declaration of Micro Containment Zone (MCZ) as per guidelines issued by the Government from time to time.
“Therefore I, Mohammad Aijaz (IAS), District Magistrate (Chairman, DDMA) Srinagar, in the exercise of powers vested in me under The Disaster Management Act 2005, read with section 144 CrPC/ The Epidemic Disease Act 1897, thereby order the NIT Campus as Micro-Containment Zone (MCZ)”, reads the order.
As per the communication by the Block Medical Officer Hazratbal to the Head of the Department, Social and Preventive Medicine GMC Srinagar, urging the concerned authorities to declare the institute as MCZ, the communication read, “24 students out of 47 tested positive for Covid 19 during RAT today. It is requested to kindly take up the matter with the concerned authorities for necessary declaration of MCZ (Micro Containment Zone)”.
The order states that the area of 50-75 Mtrs radius from the epicentre shall be declared a Micro Containment Zone.
“The Tehsildar concerned shall be the administrator of the containment zones. He/She shall coordinate with all the line departments to ensure the availability of all basic requirements”, states the order.
The order further states, “It shall be the duty of the Management of NIT Srinagar to facilitate the Covid Management Medical Teams to carry out Sweep Testing to prevent further spread of the Virus”.
