Samba, November 26, 2024: Dogra Law College celebrated Constitution Day with enthusiasm and intellectual vigor, focusing on the theme “Balancing the Power: The Essential Relationship between Constitutionalism and Democracy.” The event witnessed active participation from students of BALLB (5-Year) and LLB (3-Year) programs who showcased their academic and creative talents through paper presentations and a thought-provoking skit.
The Special Guest and Keynote Speaker Sh. Sandeep Singh Sen, Sub-Judge, District and Sessions Court, Samba, and Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Samba, graced the event with his presence. In his address, he commended the students for their scholarly paper presentations and impactful skit titled “Fundamental Rights: The Guardian of Justice.” Praising their efforts, he remarked, “The Constitution is not just a legal document but a living testament to our democratic values. Engaging in such debates and performances allows students to grasp the depth of constitutional principles and prepare themselves as future custodians of justice.” He emphasized the critical role of young lawyers in ensuring justice and upholding democratic values in society.
Th. Gulchain Singh Charak, Former Minister and Chairman of Dogra Educational Trust, delivered the presidential address, shedding light on the importance of the Right to Voteand the fundamental duties enshrined in the Constitution. Highlighting the unity in diversity that defines India, he remarked, “Our Constitution is the bedrock of our nation, providing a framework that allows us to thrive amidst our diverse languages, cultures, and religions. It is our supreme guide, fostering unity and democracy.” He urged the students to uphold constitutional values in their professional and personal lives.
The program was further enriched by the esteemed presence of Dr. Samar Dev Singh Charak (Secretary, Dogra Educational Trust), Prof. Dharamveer Sharma (Dean, Dogra Group of Colleges), Dr. Gitika Sehgal (Coordinator, Dogra Group of Colleges), and Dr. J.P. Srivastava (Principal, Dogra Law College).
The skit performed by the students received overwhelming appreciation for its portrayal of fundamental rights as the cornerstone of justice and democracy. The event also featured papers that delved into the intricate balance between constitutionalism and democracy, encouraging a deeper understanding of the dynamic interplay between legal frameworks and democratic governance.
