Udhampur, August 22, 2025 – As part of the ongoing training programme at the Sher-i-Kashmir Police Academy, Udhampur (SKPAU), a special lecture was delivered today by Dr. Shesh Paul Vaid, former Director General of Police, J&K, on the topic “Community Policing and Role of Civil Society.” The session was attended by officers of the Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Service (JKAS).

Drawing upon his decades of professional experience in policing, Dr. Vaid highlighted the importance of building trust and partnerships between the police and the community to effectively address law and order challenges. He emphasized that community policing is not merely a strategy but a philosophy of inclusive policing that requires active participation of civil society in crime prevention, conflict resolution, and social harmony.

The lecture also underlined the crucial role of civil society organizations, community elders, and local stakeholders in bridging gaps, fostering mutual understanding, and enhancing public confidence in governance. Dr. Vaid urged the JKAS officers to integrate community policing principles into their administrative responsibilities to ensure responsive, transparent, and citizen-centric service delivery.

The session concluded with an interactive discussion in which the officers exchanged views on practical approaches to strengthening community participation in governance and law enforcement. The lecture was well received by the participants, who appreciated the valuable insights and experiences shared.

The session was coordinated by Shri Rajinder Kumar Gupta, IPS, Dy. Director SKPA Udhampur, while Shri Rakesh Bali, IPS, Dy. Director Outdoor, SKPA was also present during the programme.
