Jammu : BJP Spokesperson & Convenor – International Affairs J&K , Gaurav Gupta, has welcomed and lauded the recent appreciation extended by Rafael Mariano Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, on India’s remarkable achievement in attaining criticality of the Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor (PFBR) at Kalpakkam.

Gupta stated that this milestone represents a defining moment in India’s journey towards energy self-reliance and technological excellence. He emphasized that the successful criticality of the PFBR is a testament to the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the relentless efforts of India’s scientific community.

Quoting Grossi’s remarks, Gupta noted that the global nuclear regulator has recognized India’s “impressive progress” in advancing its nuclear capabilities, particularly in the domain of fuel sustainability and next-generation energy solutions. He further highlighted that such international acknowledgment reinforces India’s growing stature as a responsible and forward-looking nuclear power.

“The achievement at Kalpakkam is not merely a technological breakthrough, but a strategic advancement in India’s three-stage nuclear programme, aimed at optimally utilizing our vast thorium reserves. It significantly reduces dependence on imported uranium and strengthens our long-term energy security,” Gupta said.

He added that the development aligns seamlessly with the Government of India’s commitment to clean, sustainable, and reliable energy, contributing meaningfully to global climate goals and India’s economic growth trajectory.

Gupta also appreciated the continued support extended by the IAEA towards India’s nuclear programme, particularly in ensuring the highest standards of safety, security, and non-proliferation.

“This milestone underscores India’s emergence as a global leader in advanced nuclear technology and opens new avenues for international collaboration in research, innovation, and capacity building,” he added.
