Jammu, 13 December 2025: A full-scale Dry Run on Fog Preparedness was conducted today at Jammu Airport at 1000 hrs to ensure complete operational readiness during the upcoming winter fog season. The exercise was aimed at testing preparedness, coordination, and response mechanisms of all airport stakeholders under simulated low-visibility conditions.
The drill simulated a real-time scenario wherein Flight VT-ZZZ was delayed by two hours at 1015 hrs due to poor visibility. All concerned agencies promptly activated their respective fog-management protocols, ensuring effective coordination and timely communication among stakeholders.
During the exercise, Airside Control verified the serviceability of airfield lighting systems and apron markings in accordance with the Fog Preparedness Manual. Terminal Operations implemented crowd-management measures, deployed additional staff, verified PA systems and CCTV coverage, and ensured proper seating arrangements. Continuous coordination was maintained with ATC, the MET Office, and airlines to ensure real-time information flow, while passengers and airlines were kept informed about the expected delay.
In line with Passenger Charter guidelines, the concerned airline provided refreshments and water once the delay exceeded two hours. A senior airline representative remained present in the terminal to brief passengers, and regular announcements were made at 30-minute intervals. Special assistance was extended to PRM passengers, senior citizens, elderly passengers, and those with medical needs.
CISF ensured smooth passenger movement by enhancing deployment at security checkpoints and maintaining readiness of Quick Response Teams. Traffic Police regulated city-side vehicular movement in view of the simulated delay to avoid congestion. Fire Services positioned crash fire tenders and ambulances at designated locations, while technical teams confirmed readiness of emergency vehicles, fog lights, communication equipment, and ensured strict log maintenance.
Passenger-centric measures were implemented in accordance with the Passenger Charter (MoCA). Affected passengers were provided free meals and refreshments, and timely information regarding flight delays was disseminated through FIDs, PA announcements, SMS alerts, and airline counters. Special care was extended to senior citizens, infants, pregnant women, and PRM passengers.
Speaking on the occasion, the Airport Director, Jammu Airport, stated that the dry run reinforced the airport’s commitment to ensuring safe, efficient, and passenger-friendly operations during the fog season. He noted that all stakeholders—including AAI teams, Apron Control, airlines, CISF, Fire Services, and MI Room staff—demonstrated excellent coordination and preparedness. He further added that the exercise helped validate fog-management SOPs and strengthen inter-agency readiness, assuring passengers of timely assistance and clear communication during weather-related disruptions.
The dry run concluded successfully, with all systems, teams, and protocols responding effectively to the simulated delay. Jammu Airport reaffirmed its preparedness to manage fog-induced disruptions while ensuring passenger safety, comfort, and timely information.
