Srinagar Sept 26: Prof. Ghulam Jeelani, Dean, School of Earth and Environmental Sciences, and Head, Department of Earth Sciences, University of Kashmir (KU) has been honoured with the prestigious National Geoscience Award by the President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi.
Instituted by the Ministry of Mines, Government of India, the award is one of the highest national recognitions in the field of geoscience. Prof. Jeelani received the honour for his research in isotope hydrology and Himalayan environmental studies, which has significantly advanced the understanding of water resources, glaciers, and climate change impacts in the region.
In her message, Vice-Chancellor KU, Prof. Nilofer Khan, congratulated Prof. Jeelani and said that “his work in the field of isotope hydrology has made a valuable contribution to scientific knowledge and to addressing pressing environmental challenges. Prof. Jeelani’s recognition at the national level reflects the quality of research being carried out at our university.”
She further added that this recognition would further inspire faculty and students to pursue research with greater dedication.
This recognition also highlights the University’s growing stature in national and international research. It reflects the institution’s achievements in scientific studies and its contributions toward addressing critical environmental challenges, while inspiring the next generation of scholars and researchers.
