New Delhi , September 30: Lt Gen Virendra Vats, YSM, SM, VSM has taken over as Director General National Cadet Corps from Lt Gen Gurbirpal Singh, PVSM, AVSM, VSM. The General Officer was commissioned in the 19 KUMAON Regiment of the Indian Army on 17 Dec 1988. In his 37 years of illustrious military career he has served in various challenging appointments in Counter Insurgency / Counter Terrorism environment. Earlier he has tenanted key appointments with Indian Army at Arunachal Pradesh, Kashmir Valley and at Army Headquarters. He has also commanded an Infantry Brigade with UN mission in Democratic Republic of Congo. Prior taking over as DG NCC, he was Commandant at Defence Services Staff College, Wellington.

He takes over the reigns of NCC at a time when the organization is undergoing expansion to cadet strength of 20 Lakhs. NCC is the world’s largest uniformed youth organization and is spread across 28 States & 08 Union Territories of India. With its motto “Unity and Discipline”, NCC is evolving in tandem with Viksit Bharat@2047 by integrating innovation, digital skills and global awareness with its traditional emphasis on character and patriotism.

The Director General is an alumnus of National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, College of Defence Management, Secunderabad and National Defence College, New Delhi. With his vast experience and professional skills the Director General is poised to lead the NCC in fulfilling its mandate with professional pride and finesse.
