Banihal, Feb 24: National Conference leader and MLA Banihal, Mr Sajjad Shaheen on Tuesday inaugurated four tube wells constructed under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) and three major road projects in the Gool–Sangaldan area of Ramban district. He was accompanied by DDC Chairperson Ramban Dr Shamshada Shan and other party functionaries.

The tube wells made operational include WSS Ashmar Bandan, Gugger-Gali WSS Upper Dalwah, WSS Parthmullah and WSS Jaba. The schemes have been executed at a combined estimated cost of ₹11.25 crore to augment drinking water supply and ensure sustainable access to safe potable water for the local population, particularly in remote and hilly habitations.
The people of the Gool–Sangaldan area have been facing an acute shortage of drinking water for a considerable period. With the commissioning of these heavy-duty tube wells, a large number of habitations across Sub-Division Gool will now receive improved and reliable water supply, significantly mitigating the hardships faced by residents.
On the same occasion, the MLA also inaugurated three major road projects — Sohail More to Suranda Road, Lower Dalwah to HSS Dalwah Road, and Kapan Bass to Alok Top Road, including development works at Bus Stand Sangaldan. These road projects have been completed at a combined estimated cost of ₹28.25 crore and are expected to significantly improve connectivity, facilitate transportation and boost economic activity in the region.
Speaking on the occasion, Shaheen said that strengthening basic infrastructure, especially drinking water facilities and road connectivity in far-flung and hilly areas, remains a top priority. He stated that the commissioning of these tube wells will substantially reduce water scarcity and benefit hundreds of households, while the upgraded road network will ease mobility for students, traders, patients and the general public.
District Development Council (DDC) Chairperson Dr. Shamshada Shan accompanied the MLA during the inauguration programme. Notably, the event also marked the concluding day of her tenure as DDC Chairperson. The MLA lauded her dedicated service and congratulated her for the work she carried out during her tenure, acknowledging her role in ensuring coordination and timely execution of developmental projects across the district.
Officials from the Jal Shakti Department, representatives of the Public Works Department (PWD), PRI members and a large number of local residents attended the programme. Locals appreciated the initiatives and expressed hope that other pending developmental projects in the area would be completed at the earliest.
