Srinagar , June 25: Keeping with its traditions of involving youth in peace building and future-looking ventures, Jammu and Kashmir Police’s cycle race which is now popular as “ Pedal for Peace” concluded with prize distribution in Srinagar on Sunday .More than 25000 cyclists had participated in the event , part of J&K Police ‘s Civic Action programmes, under the leadership of Director General of Police Dilbag Singh , with a clear manifestation that how the efforts at peace-building were making their footprints visible.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha distributed the prizes to the winners, woth seven lakh, one lakh on the spot through raffle draw . Manoj Sinha lauded the efforts of J&K police and its civic action programmes which were attracting youth toward sports , and taking them to the path of bright future.

“ These events ,” Manoj Sinha noted , were important in a place like Kashmir to draw the attention of the people elsewhere about the changes that J&K has witnessed in the past three-and a half years .
DGP Dilbag Singh noted that among the participants were as young as three-year-old child and a senior citizen of 62. This shows , eh said, how the young and elders wanted to send a positive message to the world .
The Asian Games probables , internatonal players from Manipur , Madhya Pradesh , Lah and J&K also took part in the event , giving it an international profile , which , DGP said , will serve as an inspiration for Kashmiri youth .
The DGP said this event is becoming more and more interesting and added that the number of participants is growing gradually each passing year.
Peace marches on foot were held in the past and are still being held, adding that the slogan “Pedal for Peace” gives more strength to speed up the movement for securing more peace in quick time.
ADGP Armed J&K SJM Gillani flanked by DIG Armed Kashmri Shahid Mehraj, DIG IRP Kashmir Abdul Qayoom and Commandants of Kashmir based Armed as well as IRP battalions flagged off the different categories of cyclists from Lalit Ghat, Police Golf Course, Srinagar in the morning.
