SUCHETGARH, October 28: Taranjit Singh Tony, a Congress leader and DDC Member from Suchetgarh, has expressed strong criticism against the BJP-led Central government for its inadequate efforts in maintaining peace along the borders in Jammu and Kashmir.

While addressing the escalating issue of heavy shelling along the International Border and condemning Pakistan for its actions, the Congress leader highlighted the severity of the situation. He emphasized that targeting civilians in these cross-border conflicts represents a clear violation of international norms. The regions near the border areas currently paint a grim picture of devastation and despair, with people fleeing for their safety.
Tony voiced his concerns over the Central Government’s inability to protect the residents of border areas. He pointed out that despite the considerable fanfare surrounding the construction of bunkers, they have proven to be ineffective due to inadequate maintenance, resulting in many of them being inundated by rainwater. The significant funds allocated for these bunkers appear to have been wasted, as they are currently unusable during times of need due to neglect. This situation amounts to a squandering of valuable resources and public funds, he added.
In an effort to draw attention to the dire circumstances faced by the border dwellers, the Congress leader apprised the Divisional Commissioner, Ramesh Kumar who along with DC Jammu Sachin Kumar Vaishy, SSP Jammu Vinod Kumar, IGP Jammu Anand Jain, SP Hqrs Rameesh Gupta, DySP RS Pura Nikhil Gonga, and SDM RS Pura Seema Parihar visited the affected areas, about the deplorable conditions endured by the residents.
Tony highlighted the issue of a bridge in Village Sae area that was constructed in 2019, but the roads leading to it from both sides were never completed. He urged the Divisional Commissioner to visit the site and assess the challenges faced by the people living in pitiable conditions without access to basic amenities.
In response, the Divisional Commissioner directed the officials accompanying him to expedite the construction of the approach roads for the aforementioned bridge without further delay.
Tony expressed hope that these directives would provide much-needed relief to the residents living in the area. He said people are satisfied with the assurance given by the Divisional Commissioner and IGP Jammu.
He further urged him to provide 5 Marlas plots to border dwellers as promised by the BJP government.
