Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address to the nation from the ramparts of the historic Red Fort on Saturday, marking the 80th Independence Day, was a testament to his abiding conviction in the nation’s progress and unity. This time, he looked beyond the ordinary, forging a deep connection with the youth and calling upon their boundless energy to position India as a permanent global leader.
This call to harness youth talent carries extraordinary weight. India is not only the world’s most populous nation, but it also possesses a demographic dividend unmatched by any other country. Today’s youth look to the future with hope, believing the nation is genuinely transforming as the rigid barriers of older, restrictive systems are successfully dismantled.
The Prime Minister emphasized the expanding avenues available to young innovators, particularly in technology, fresh ideas, and practical execution. The concept of start-ups has taken on a new meaning, reflecting both the self-confidence of the youth and a supportive system where innovation is backed by necessary resources from fields to factories.
There is both style and substance in the Prime Minister’s message. He possesses a unique ability to link everyday details to soaring aspirations while outlining clear pathways to achieve them. For instance, he highlighted the need to dismantle the monopoly of expensive coaching centers that charge exorbitant fees for competitive exam preparation. His announcement of accessible online coaching has kindled fresh hope and confidence, promising to bridge the divide between the haves and the have-nots.
Positioning the youth at the absolute center of national transformation, the Prime Minister affirmed that young Indians are both the primary architects and the ultimate beneficiaries of this rapid progress, stressing that the entire journey toward a developed nation must be inextricably linked to their empowerment. “We absolutely have to take the goal of a Viksit Bharat forward by aggressively connecting it with the youth as our highest priority,” he said .
Celebrating the explosive growth of the domestic startup ecosystem to 2.5 lakh registered entities over the last decade, the Prime Minister highlighted a sweeping era of youth empowerment driven by unmatched resources like the Rs 1 lakh crore Research and Innovation Fund, the revolutionary impact of affordable digital data, and proactive frameworks including Skill India, Khelo India, the National Drone Policy, private space participation, and the historic National Education Policy 2020 introduced after 35 years. “You bring your massive dreams, we have made a powerful system of financial support and will absolutely not let there be a shortage of resources,” noted Modi.
Announcing a massive new initiative to alleviate the severe financial and emotional burden of competitive exams on middle-class families, the Prime Minister launched Free Online Coaching, leveraging robust Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) and top teachers to provide high-quality educational support through a nationwide competitive prep network. “By bringing those massive resources together, we are going to build an entire robust network to give absolutely free coaching to the youth.”
Repeated references to his ongoing more than 12-year rule in the country were worth mentioning because during this period he has laid a foundation upon which a new and vibrant India has been built, particularly after the devastation that previous regimes had wrought in the country . There was an atmosphere of dismay and the youth were confused and frustrated , not knowing which direction to choose .There were very little choices, rather it would be more appropriate to say, there were no choices available. The system was so much policy paralysis that the world had started looking at India as a gone case.
Modi delivered solutions . He invoked and summoned the faith of the countrymen that the system in disrepair could be renewed and made better . He said that it could be done , and he made it possible .
