Jammu , July 20 On the opening day of Monsoon session , Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that he is pained at the incident of women paraded naked in Manipur on May 4 , video of which surfaced yesterday.
He said that his heart is full of pain and anger over the “shameful” incident of women paraded naked in Manipur,. Prime Minister said what has happened to these daughters of Manipur can never be forgiven and assured that no culprit will be spared.
“I assure the countrymen that no culprit will be spared. The law with all its might will take one step after another,” Modi said, addressing the media ahead of the Monsoon Session.
In his remarks outside the Parliament, Modi also urged all Chief Ministers to further strengthen law and order in their states and take strictest steps to protect women.
“Today when I have come among you, standing near this temple of democracy, then my heart is full of pain, full of anger. The incident that has come to light in Manipur is a shameful incident for any civilised society,” Modi said.
He added, “How many are there who commit sins, who are they… They are at their place. But the entire country is being insulted, 140 crore countrymen are feeling ashamed. I urge all the Chief Ministers to further strengthen the law and order in their states.”
During his brief remarks, Modi also mentioned incidents of crime against women in the Congress-ruled states like Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh. “Be it Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Manipur or any part of the country, maintaining law and order and respecting women should be put above any political debate,” Modi said.
He urged the Chief Ministers to take the “harshest steps especially to protect our mothers and sisters.”
