Jammu, August, 30: Jammu & Kashmir experienced severe disruption of telecom services due to continuous heavy rainfall, landslides, and cloudbursts between 25th and 26th August 2025. On 27th August morning, 3,660 out of 13,445 mobile sites were down, mainly because of extensive damage to optical fibre connectivity on the Jammu–Srinagar highway and the collapse of a bridge at Lakhanpur on the Jammu–Pathankot route. Power outages in major cities further aggravated the situation.
To ensure public relief, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) HQ, New Delhi immediately issued instructions for Intra-circle roaming from 26th August to 2nd September 2025. Parallelly, all telecom operators-initiated restoration work on a war footing under the supervision of Shri Khushwant Rai, Additional Director General Telecom, J&K LSA, along with his team by setting a round the clock control room with effect from 14th August 2025.
Within 24 hours, major optical fibre routes of Airtel, RJio, and BSNL were restored, reconnecting Jammu with the Kashmir Valley. Continuous coordination was maintained with telecom operators, state authorities, and NDMA to expedite recovery.
As of 30th August 2025, over 95% of telecom services stand restored, with less than 700 sites non-functional. The Department of Telecommunications commends the efforts of all operators and field teams for their tireless work in ensuring early restoration of critical communication services in the UT.
