New Delhi, February 12: SSP Shailender Singh’s award winning Dogri novel Hashie Par’s translation in Punjabi language ‘Bouna Rukh’ by Baljit Singh Raina was released today at the India International Center Delhi.
N. N. Vohra, former Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, was the chief guest on the occasion. Director General of Police J&K Dilbag Singh, Ravindra Kumar, Head of Punjabi Department, Delhi University, Man mohan Singh, Special Director IB, Yadvinder Singh, Assistant Professor, Department of Punjabi, University of Delhi, Prof Renuka Singh, Shailender Singh, Baljit Singh Raina, teachers and researchers from the Department of Punjabi, University of Delhi were present on the occasion.
Vohra speaking on the occasion said that we should translate more and more books and make regional languages accessible to more and more people, so that the books of one language can be reached to the readers of other different languages, he added.
He said that National Book Trust should do more and more in this field, and more and more books should be published and made available to the readers at low cost. He said that this novel should become the voice of the poor and downtrodden people of entire India. He shared the experience of propagation of Dogri language during his governorship.
Speaking on the occasion, Dilbag Singh appreciated the depth of thinking, understanding of the society & their sensitivity by the writer Shailender Singh and translator Baljit Singh Raina.
On the occasion Ravindra Kumar said that this novel is the story of three generations from independence till now. He said that this novel presents the mental condition of the people living below the poverty line who do not get any benefit from the government schemes. The novel presents the subject of non-equality and possession of economic, social, educational, administrative means etc. by the elite class.
Manmohan Singh while speaking about the novel said that the word ‘Duggar’ was used in Punjabi literature by Baba Sheikh Farid. Explaining Frederick Jameson’s theory of utopia through the novel, he said that every person has his own utopia, it has many forms.
Yadvinder Singh, Assistant Professor, Department of Punjabi, University of Delhi, conducting the stage, said that the author has presented the Guru Nanak Dev’s ideology ‘Neecha Andar Neech Ki Gawahi’ in the novel.
Shailender Singh thanked all the guests and readers.
Hashiye Par has already been translated into English as ‘Hashiye Par: for a tree to grow’; into Hindi as ‘Hashiya’. It’s translation into Kashmiri is in advance stage by Sahitya Akademi Delhi.
