Jammu, Dec. 02: Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary has gone to the Delhi High Court asking for viral videos on social media to be removed. These videos reportedly show him talking to a woman on the phone in a way he says has “sexual undertones.”
The matter was heard by Justice Amit Bansal, who, directed platforms such as Google and Meta to share details of the Facebook pages and YouTube channels that uploaded the disputed content. The court also instructed Choudhary to make the original uploaders respondents in the case.
During the session, the bench observed that the Deputy CM’s defamation plea lacked transcripts or digital copies of the videos in question. Justice Bansal asked Choudhary to submit the videos on a pen drive and placed the matter for the next hearing on January 13.
The court said that it would review his request for interim relief after examining the videos.
Choudhary, a senior National Conference leader and MLA from Nowshera, became the Deputy Chief Minister on October 16, 2024, after his victory in the Assembly polls.
The controversy arrives at a politically delicate moment, raising questions about online misinformation, weaponisation of digital media, and the challenges faced by public figures in the era of viral content.
