Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Jammu on Thursday evening stirring a series of anticipation among the people of the Union Territory . The people , ever since the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019 , are used to the new moves by the Centre rebuilding their future , brick by brick. Now they want consolidation of that structure to improve their lives and generate predictability for new generations.
For more than 13 million people for Jammu and Kashmir from Kathua to Kupwara , Amit Shah represents a solid hope aimed at taking them to the kind of future they are looking for , and they know that the regular security reviews and assessment of developmental activities are part of that future-building exercise .
The people are aware of the new challenges dogging their territory where fissiparous tendencies continue to fill the narratives, while Pakistan is continuing with its designs to cause overt and covert troubles in the territory . They know that only strong leader like Amit Shah can find answers to these issues, which have been further complicated by the emerging signs of grave political confrontation where political rhetoric is putting the national interest and unity of J&K in jeopardy .
The abrogation of Article 370 was not all about the removal of the constitutional barriers and laying foundation of equality in life and opportunities in one of the most progressive countries in the world, but to fill the lives with hope and promise . That is where, the population is looking for greater things from his visit.
Amit Shah, through his regular visits and interactions with the people and officials , has become a face and voice of promise for the people of Jammu and Kashmir, as he also controls the levers of running affairs of the UT in his capacity as Home Minister , this point gets further reinforced .
The ongoing visit of Home Minister has been phrased in typical official terms – visit to the border areas, security and development review meetings , and what has not been mentioned is that he will interact with the BJP legislators who are determined to highlight the alleged discrimination against Jammu region by the National Conference government led by Omar Abdullah .
It is time to focus on some of the concrete and future-looking aspects of J&K life . And Amit Shah knows how to do it . He, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, brought transformation in J&K , which is emerging as a symbol of emerging peace and a vast theatre of staging of staging national and international events .
Regular security reviews on the borders and the hinterland , given the violence -filled history of J&K- is a national necessity . The security perception has changed , despite some of the irritants persisting in the place. The current situation is good but that can be maintained only when all the threats are eliminated .The regular assessment of the situation is a strategic imperative , primarily for two reasons – one, the gains made so far cannot be left to the time , corrective measures needed to keep things on track must be taken and, it is also necessary to introduce new futuristic approaches . The peace is important to make J&K a spring board to propel it into the orbit of new future in alignment with the national objective of “ Atamnirbhar Bharat.”
Jammu and Kashmir , because of its geographical location and strategic importance , is a key to “ Atamnirbhar Bharat.” The security , political and social stability are must . Unfortunately, the things are not moving on that track. The political ambitions and egoistic assertions are triggering new clash of narratives on the regional and communal lines. Jammu and Kashmir can ill-afford it at this juncture when it is eying its future in the violence-free era . The continuation of such conflict discourses can cause unimaginable damage .
The Home Minister , people hope , will put an end to these narratives that hold the ominous potential of littering landscape with new fault lines . That is strategic necessity for the future of J&K in “ Viksit Bharat.”
