Nagrota, April 01-

National Conference Provincial President Devender Singh Rana on Sunday sought naming of IIT Jammu after the great Dogra warrior and pride Mian Deedo and 40 per cent jobs in its support staff for the locals.

A resolution to this effect, moved by Rana, who is also MLA Nagrota, was unanimously adopted by Mian Deedoji Birthday Celebration Committee, comprising various socio-cultural organizations at a specially convened function at Mian Deedo Ji Devasthan Jagti this morning.

The Rajput Sabha president Narain Singh and Team Jammu chairman Zorawar Singh vehemently supported the resolution, hoping this will receive earnest attention by the Ministry of Human Resources Development and the State Government.

Udheybir Singh (Retd.Judge), Sumant Singh, Jagdish Singh, Dhanter Singh, Advocate Pawan Dev Singh, and other office bearers of the Committee presented mementos to Devender Singh Rana, Narian Singh and Zorawar Singh.

“Mian Deedo fought for the just rights of millions and the best way of paying tribute to him would be to pass the saga of his valour and contribution to posterity”, Mr Rana said, adding that there can’t be any better way in doing so than naming the premier professional institution of the region after his name.

Rana hoped that the government would rise to the occasion and recognize the great contribution of the visionary warrior by taking a decision in this regard earnestly. Such a step, he said, would be recognition of the glorious Dogra pride as well. He dwelt in detail on the life and struggle of Mian Deedo and said reverence for warrior is still echoing in the folk songs sung in his remembrance by the indebted people.

“This day also reminds us of great Jammu heroes, Mian Deedo, Raja Ranpat, Bawa Jitto, General Zorawar Singh, Brig Rajinder Singh and others. who have struggled in their own way to carve out a place of honour for the people of Jammu”, Mr Rana said, adding that their spirit is relived by the warriors of Jammu every day. He referred to the legacy of valour being carried forward by brave Dogras in the armed and security forces, who were offering numerous sacrifices for the nation.
