Pakistan is mistaken that terrorism is a seat belt and a formidable safety valve for the country. By now it should have understood, it is not. The United States of America, with which it was an ally in the war against terrorism post 9/11 has found it guilty of being epicenter of terrorism. There is little appreciation in Washington what Pakistan claims to be its singular role in the fight against terrorism , and its claim that it is the worst victim of terrorism, too, is taken with a bagful of salt.

This introductory paragraph from the country reports on terrorism released by the U S state department says it all.

“Although the Pakistani government voiced support for political reconciliation between the Afghan government and the Afghan Taliban, it did not restrict the Afghan Taliban and the Haqqani Network (HQN) from operating in Pakistan-based safe havens and threatening U.S. and Afghan forces in Afghanistan. The government failed to significantly limit Lashkar e-Tayyiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) from raising money, recruiting, and training in Pakistan – and allowed candidates overtly affiliated with LeT front organizations to contest the July general elections.”

This report also read , “Groups located in Pakistan, but focused on conducting attacks outside the country, included the Afghan Taliban, HQN, LeT and its affiliated front organizations, and JeM. Terrorists used a range of tactics to attack individuals, schools, markets, government institutions, and places of worship, including IEDs, VBIEDs, suicide bombings, targeted assassinations, and rocket-propelled grenades.” This is clear reference to the attacks in India, particularly in Jammu and Kashmir, there were so many attacks in Kashmir. The Let and JeM, the globally known terror networks were active in Jammu and Kashmir, and they mounted several attacks.

It referred to the February 10 , 2018  fidayeen attack on Sunjawan army camp in Jammu in which nine soldiers and their family members were killed, and also murdered a Kashmiri journalist  Shujaat Bukhari in Srinagar.

The US did not note the most devastating terror attack of February 14, 2019 Pulwama in which more than 40 CRPF personnel were killed , and many more wounded , because the calendar year of the report was confined to 2018. But this reflected the devilish intentions from across the border.

Pakistan should know that where it stands in the eyes of the world.
