University Research fellowship increased from Rs.5000 to Rs.10,000 per month; gives nod to no fee hike for 2 years

 Jammu, June17: The 116th meeting of the Syndicate of University of Jammu  was held today under the chairmanship of Prof. Manoj Kumar Dhar, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu during which various academic and administrative matters were discussed. In his opening remarks, Prof. Dhar extended a warm welcome to all the members of the Syndicate, particularly, Dr.Arun Kumar Mehta, Financial Commissioner (Financial Adviser, Universities)and Shri Talat Parvez Rohella, Commissioner Secretary, Higher Education for their whole hearted support in various activities of the University. Prof. Dhar reiterated that the University has taken a quantum jump by achieving 52nd rank in  National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) during 2020 from 74th rank last year.  He further informed that in NIRF, Universities are assessed on the basis of 5 main parameters.Out of first 100 Universities, JU has been ranked 27 in Teaching, Learning & Resources, 28 in Graduation Outcomes, 36 in Peer Perception, 47 in Research & Professional Practice and 50 in Outreach and Inclusivity, some of which are higher than the prominent and prestigious Universities of the Country.Prof Dhar said that during the last 1-2 years, the University has been consistently working in the weak areas and the faculty, officers, scholars, students and non-teaching staff are working very hard towards steady development. He mentioned that the University conducted 12Benchmarklectures by eminent academicians, scientists and scholars of National and International repute. Besides, more than 60 workshops were conducted inviting 350 experts from all parts of the country for updation of the Curricula in all the disciplines.  Prof Dhar further said that the ranking has boosted the morale of University fraternity and University is committed  to achieve greater heights of excellence in the times to come.  The  University is envisaging to start various Courses, which for sure will benefit the students and scholars of UT J&K and help the University to propel into the arena of further excellence, added Prof Dhar.

 

Speaking on the occasion, Dr A.K  Mehta, Financial Commissioner, Finance Department,J&K and Financial Adviser, Universities congratulated the Vice Chancellor and the entire JU fraternity for significant improvement in the NIRF ranking. He exhorted that the University should strive hard to achieve better ranking next year. For this purpose the University needs to conduct an assessment of weak areas and undertake sustained efforts to make up the deficiencies. He insisted that the University should lay emphasis on online teaching learning and develop e-learning resources. He suggested that resources should be  channelized meaningfully and deliverables from each activity should be identified.  Sh. Talat Parvez Rohella, Commissioner Secretary to Government for Higher Education, complimented the Vice Chancellor and the faculty, staff and students for achieving high rank in NIRF. He particularly mentioned about the high rank achieved by the University in Teaching, learning & resources and Graduation outcome, which is higher than many prominent Universities of the country. He attributed this success to the systematic planning and execution of various initiatives of the University. He suggested that University should become an important hub in imparting skill based courses and should emerge a centre of outcome based research.

 

The Syndicate endorsed,in principle,the  decision of the academic council for  establishment of the Department of Journalism and Media Studies, Department of Philosophy and Directorate of Hindi, in the University of Jammu. Besides, starting of self-supporting, two year Executive MBA Programme and Diploma in Museology & Archaeology was approved. The Syndicate had high appreciation for the proposal of the University to establish a Research Cluster. It endorsed the establishment of  7 centres of excellence in various research areas, under the Research Cluster, which will hugely benefit the faculty, researchers and students of the University and affiliated colleges.  The cluster is expected to become functional in a State of the art building and will be developed with the help of the grants sanctioned to the University under RUSA.

 

Syndicate acceded to the long pending demand of College teachers for provision of 10% supernumerary seats in the Ph. D. programmes of all disciplines in the University. Raising of the monthly University Research Fellowship of Scholars from Rs.5000 to Rs.10,000 was approved. In a major relief to the students under present circumstances, the Syndicate decided not to hike the fee for two years. The Syndicate endorsed the various decisions of the University with regard to academic calendar, promotion of students to next semesters in view of the Covid19 pandemic, and implementation of one-time provisions. Replacement of “Permanent Residence Certificate” with “Domicile Certificate” wherever prescribed for admission in the University of Jammu from the academic session 2020-21 and onwards was endorsed. Further the Syndicate also approved establishment of Entrance Examination Cell in University of Jammu.

 

 Prof Rajni Dhingra, Registrar, University of Jammu presented 63 items in the meeting. Giving nod to the various agenda items, Syndicate also confirmed the action taken on the items endorsed by the Academic Council.

 

The Syndicate meeting was attended by Prof Rajnikant, Dean, Faculty of Sciences, Dr.Sameru Sharma, Dean, Faculty of Engineering & Principal GCET, Prof. F.A. Masoodi, Dean School of Applied Sciences &Technology,University of Kashmir, Prof Yasmeen Kawoosa, Dean, School of Education, Cluster University of Srinagar,Prof Pankaj Srivastava, Prof Vivek Gupta, Prof Satnam Kour Raina, Prof ParkashAntahal, all from JU, Prof.Assa Ram Sharma, Principal GDC (Boys) Kathua and Dr. K.K. Sharma, Principal,GDC, Dharmari. The meeting was coordinated by Dr Imran Farooq, Incharge Coordination section  and technically steered by Sh.Guneet Sudan (Asst. Director, IT enabled Services).
