Based on specific intelligence input on presence of a group of terrorists in Chimmer area of Kulgam district, a joint cordon was laid and Operation Chimmer was launched by Kulgam based Rashtriya Rifles, JKP & CRPF at around 11:30 PM on 30 June 2021 in which three terrorists were killed, taking the total number of terrorists killed this year to 61.
Giving details of the encounter, defence spokesperson in Srinagar said that laying initial cordon at approximately 01:00 PM around the suspected area, terrorists opened fire from a house on the troops and a fire fight ensued. During the initial exchange of fire, two terrorists were eliminated and later, a third terrorist was also eliminated. One AK-47 & two pistols and other war like stores were recovered from the slain terrorists.
Strict Restraint was exercised throughout the operation to avoid any collateral damage.
As per sources these terrorists were involved in anti-social activities, including harassing the civil population.
A total of 61terrorists have been eliminated by Security Forces in Kashmir this year.
