Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan while thanking his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi for his wishes to the people of Pakistan on their national day on March 23, underlined the need for peaceful relations with all neighbours, including India but pressed for the centrality of the issue of Jammu and Kashmir.

In reply to Modi’s letter in which he had said that India was desirous of cordial relations with Pakistan in an environment of “ trust, devoid of terror and hostility”, Imran Khan responded with call for peaceful relations with India . He wrote in his letter , dated March 29 “ the people of Pakistan also desire peaceful , cooperative relations with all neighbours, including India.”

Imran Khan , however, conditioned the good relations that, he said, people of Pakistan desired by focusing on the resolution of the issue of Jammu and Kashmir. His letter read: “ We are convinced that durable peace and stability in South Asia is contingent upon resolving all outstanding issues between India and Pakistan , in particular the Jammu and Kashmir dispute.”

He also underlined : “ Creation of an enabling environment is imperative for a constructive and result-oriented dialogue”
Imran also extended his wishes to people of India in their fight against pandemic of Covid-19.
