Former chairman of Hurriyat Conference Mohammad Abbas Ansari breathed his last at his residence in Srinagar this morning, according to family members .
Ansari , who founded Itehaad-ul-Muslimeen , and later became Chairman of the Hurriyat Conference , was ailing for several weeks .
Abbas Ansari was a prominent Shia leader of Kashmir . He was chairman of the Hurriyat Conference when the Centre had offered talks to the Hurriyat. However , he resigned from the post and that led to the reassumption of Chairmahip by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq . Both the leaders were part of the Hurriyat dlegation that opened talks with the Centre in January 2004.
