The United States is closely monitoring the situation on the Line of Actual Control between India and China following the December 9 clashes between the PLA and Indian troops in Yangtse , Tawang region of Arunachal Pradesh , and has also made it plain that it “ strongly opposes any unilateral attempts to advance territorial claims.”
Chinese troops had entered Yangtse area in Tawang region of the northeastern Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh on December 9 to unilaterally change the status quo at the Line of Actual Control . This led to scuffle between the Indian and Chinese troops , both sides suffered injuries. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in his statement in the Parliament on Tuesday had given a brief about the events that led to clashes and the subsequent situation on the LAC . He had assured that the Indian troops were ever-ready to foil any aggressive designs from across the border.
Reflecting on the situation , in response to questions at the State Department briefing on Tuesday , the spokesperson Ned Price said , “ we’re closely monitoring the situation . We are glad to hear that both sides appear to have quickly disengaged from the clashes”, and he added with an emphasis ,” but we’re continuing to monitor very closely and to engage with our Indian partners.”
The US has always been very critical of the expansionist designs of China and, stood in support of India .
Price , specifically underlined, “ we do strongly oppose any unilateral attempts to advance territorial claims by incursions , military or civilian , across the border at the established Line of Actual Control , and we encourage India and China to utilize existing bilateral channels to discuss disputed boundaries.”
In his reply to a question whether the recent clashes at Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh had come in the wake of the joint military exercises between India and the US close to the LAC , the US state Department spokesperson said, “ India is India is indeed an important strategic partner of the United States bilaterally, in the Quad, and other multilateral fora as well. So we’re always, with that in mind, in close contact with our Indian partners, both from our mission in India as well as from the State Department here in Washington.”
