Jammu , February 28 : Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang will be visiting India on March 2, first such high-ranking visit of the highest diplomat to Delhi since 2019 . This visit though connected to the G- 20 meeting of the Foreign Ministers signals signs of diplomatic thaw between the two countries , the relations of which strained following military standoff in eastern Ladakh since April-May 2020 .

Chinese Foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning , during her interaction with media , on Tuesday revealed : At the invitation of External Affairs o Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar of G 20 President India , Foreign Minister Qin Gang will attend the G20 Foreign Ministers Meeting in New Delhi on March 2 .”

The visit is coming at a time when two Asian giants India and China have more misunderstanding than understanding on the issues concerning the two countries , particularly in the backdrop of the military standoff and the friction points at Demchok and Pangong Tso . The resolution of the boundary issue is to be resolved by the exteranal affairs ministries of the two countries , that adds greater significance to Qin Gang’s visit to Delhi .

The Chinese foreign ministry underscored the importance of the visit of Qin Gang to India , covering the need for cooperation of at the G20 meeting in Delhi stated :” In a world fraught with uncertainties and struggling to reboot the economy, countries have much to do to overcome the challenges in order to deliver on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. “

Mao Ning also underscored that “ as the premier forum for international economic cooperation, it is important that the G20 focus on the prominent challenges in the global economy and on development and play a bigger role in driving world economic recovery and global development. China stands ready to work with all parties to ensure that the G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting will send a positive signal on multilateralism, food and energy security and development cooperation.”

Read between the lines , it also underlines the importance of China and India in repairing the bilateral relations. The world cannot think of any stability without the positive contribution of Beijing and Delhi.
