JAMMU: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), J&K unit, today demanded restoration of statehood before holding elections in the Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing a press conference at Press Club here, Yashpal Kundal, Chairman ST, SC OBC Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Jammu and Kashmir and former minister and Taranjit Singh Tony, Chairman AAP J&K for Administrative Engagement and Minority Affairs, and DDC Member Suchetgarh accused the BJP Government at the Centre of playing with the future of people of Jammu and Kashmir by toeing a line to make the farmers in UT landless and the youths jobless under its ploy to provide jobs to outsiders and selling the land to ‘non-state subjects’. They demanded restoration of statehood and protection of jobs for the state subjects and implementation of land protection laws in letter and spirit.
Citing the statement made by the concerned minister in the Lok Sabha claiming that 185 people have bought land in the UT of J&K, the AAP leaders said that this is part of the ploy to make the people especially farmers landless and forced them to work as labourers in their own state. They said that the proxy government of centre working under the realms of LG Manoj Sinha in J&K is neglecting the local talent by offering jobs to outsiders in banks and other institutions besides appointing Vice Chancellors in universities from outside the region. They said that it is unacceptable as local academia has been undermined under a well knit conspiracy. They said that ‘aboriginals’ of J&K are facing worst ever discrimination and prejudice at the hands of outsider LG, who has been imposed on the people by the BJP government led by PM.
The senior AAP leaders raised serious concern over the step-motherly treatment being extended to the people of Jammu region despite BJP getting massive mandate in Assembly and Parliamentary elections. They said nearly six toll plazas are operational in Jammu while only one toll plaza is operational in Kashmir which shows the discriminatory policy of Saffron Party.
Kundal and Tony demanded that all the Vice Chancellors in the universities in J&K should be the sons or daughters of the soil as AAP will not tolerate such insult of the intellectuals belonging to the region. They also demanded that banking and semi government jobs should also be protected for local youths of J&K.
Surinder Singh Shingari, Women’s Wing President Namrata Sharma, Subhash Sharma, Amit Kapoor, Ravi Shastri, Pratap Singh Jamwal and Ch Jagdeep Singh demanded blanket ban in government and semi-government jobs to the outsiders. All the jobs of the state should be protected and given only to the youth of Jammu and Kashmir, they added.
