Thursday, 12th September, 2025: The Centre for Women’s Studies, University of Jammu culminated a five-day Civil Defence Training Workshop today at Govt. Degree College for Women, Bhagwati Nagar Jammu. The Workshop aimed at empowering participants with critical knowledge and practical skills in disaster preparedness emergency response and community safety.
During this five- day training program, various activities were performed by the experts. The trainers deliberated on disaster management, fire safety, first aid, evacuation procedures, and psychological preparedness during emergencies.
The training workshop was conceived under the able guidance of Prof. Savita Nayyar, Director, Centre for Women’s Studies. In the valedictory function, she highlighted the significance of civil defence training in the current socio-political climate. In her address, she presented a detailed report of the said five days activities that included disaster management structures, first aid usage in blood loss, CPR instructions, emergencies and rescues during snake and dog bite and exclusive fire-extinguishing techniques. Further, she stated that this workshop is a milestone in the mission to create informed and proactive citizens and training shall be very helpful for the students to provide assistance in the situation of emergencies. The Centre also expressed gratitude to the principal, Prof. Naveen Anand for the support and encouraging the students to participate in this important training workshop.
Sh. Zia Ul Haq, DSP and Deputy Controller of the Civil Defence Department deliberated upon the success of the five days event. He professes that the five days training culminated with interactive demonstration and hand-on exercises. More than 70 students enthusiastically participated in the training workshop. Apart from students the program was witnessed by volunteers, dignitaries of Civil Defence Department and faculty members of the college.
Dr. Saranjit Kaur coordinated the training programme and Dr. Disha Sharma presented the formal vote of thanks, both faculty members, Centre for Women’s Studies.
